Dehydrated & Dry Skin

Dehydrated & Dry Skin

DRY SKIN lacks oil.
Having a dry skin can be uncomfortable! Dry skins can feel itchy and if not looked after properly can lead to other skin conditions such as eczema. Dry skins will age faster and are more predisposed to becoming allergic and sensitive. Our skins become dryer as we age due to less production of collagen and by the slowing down or lack of natural oils being produced by sebaceous glands. Having a dry skin will be genetic, but can also just be part and parcel of hormonal changes as we age (such as menopause)

Making sure we have a diet rich in essential fatty acids like Omega 3 can really help in combating dry skin. Insufficient sleep also plays a major role as we need our sleep to regenerate cells. Stress also plays a major role in the overall health of our skin.

Although a dry skin is an internal condition, many external factors can cause our skin to become even drier. Harsh cold temperatures and winds can dry the skin, then when it’s cold our skin has to deal with winter heating. Use humidifiers to keep up water moisture in the air during winter. Avoid really hot showers, moisturise regularly and exfoliate so your moisturisers can work effectively. Most people are unaware that regular soaps are high alkaline PH levels and thus incredibly drying for the skin.
